John Kenney

Sutter Roofing’s Chief Operating Officer John Kenney will be a speaker at 2019’s Smartsheet’s ENGAGE conference.  ENGAGE is a Smartsheets customer conference that brings together more than 3,500 innovators from the global Smartsheet community for four days of inspiring sessions, hands-on learning, practical solutions, and networking opportunities.

John comes highly skilled with over 40 years’ experience in the construction industry. John started his career by working as a roofing apprentice during the summers in a family business in the Northeast. He also managed many successful projects in the New York/New Jersey/Pennsylvania Market before continuing his accomplishments in the Florida Market. John has been successfully providing estimating and management services in the Florida market since 1999.

Doug Sutter

Best of Success is an intensive two-day roofing conference that presents new and improved ways to run your roofing business for both commercial & residential applications. Best of Success just announced their list of speakers including Doug Sutter of Sutter Roofing.

Doug Sutter is a fourth-generation roofing contractor with over 30 years in the industry. The original Sutter Roofing & Metal Company was founded in 1902, and Sutter Roofing Company of Florida was founded in 1979. Doug is the President of both firms.

Doug was born and raised in West Virginia and spent all his summers working in the family business. He was exposed at an early age to many aspects of commercial roofing as well as sheet metal fabrication and installation.

Sutter Roofing began operating in Clarksburg West Virginia in 1902. We are now celebrating our 40th Anniversary in Florida since opening our first location in Sarasota in 1979. Since then we have expanded to locations serving commercial roofing customers in Florida including Tampa, Orlando, West Palm Beach, Fort Myers, and our newest location in Jacksonville. The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) announced its new board of directors and officers for 2019-20 term during its 132nd Annual Convention Feb. 9-13 in Nashville, Tennessee. Brad Sutter, Executive Vice President of Sutter Roofing Company of Florida was nominated to the executive committee as a Vice Chairmen for a two-year term.

Brad Sutter whom has been working for locally owned family business for over 25 years and is a past president of the Florida Roofing & Sheet Metal Contractors Association. Brad says one of his goals as Vice Chairmen is “To continue our efforts to build the worker training and Pro Certification program to provide contractor’s new ways to attract and train the next generation of roofing workers.”

“As a fourth-generation roofing contractor, I am honored to be nominated to represent the industry and look forward to working with the NRCA staff, executive committee, and board to address our workforce needs and other issues affecting us.”

The NRCA Board consists of a board of up to 48 directors and nine Executive Committee officers. Nominations for NRCA officers and directors are received from members of local, state and regional roofing contractors & affiliates of NRCA.



The Enterprise Holdings Foundation recently awarded a $1,000 grant to Children First, Sarasota County’s provider of Head Start and Early Head Start programs. The grant was provided by the Enterprise Holdings Foundation at the request of Sutter Roofing. The grant will further Children First’s mission of strengthening children and families by improving the quality of their lives through a comprehensive approach to development, education, health and well-being.

The Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe recently received a $10,000 Arts Work award from the National Endowment for the Arts to help underwrite its 2018 production of The Mountaintop, a fictional account of the last night of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life.

The Eluned and Edward Russell Charitable Fund recently awarded Child Protection Center’s Personal Safety and Community Awareness Program $7,500 to provide prevention and educational programs on child maltreatment throughout the community. The ultimate goal of the program is to eliminate child abuse in our community through educational programs for children, parents and more.

The Junior League of Sarasota recently held its annual dinner and announced highlights of its 2016-2017 giving season. The organization generated 7,300 hours of local volunteer work, raised $126,500 and donated $34,000 in grants, helped 1,400 family members through its hunger programs, collected 1,500 pounds of food, packed 5,200 meals and donated more than 315 slow cookers and cookbooks to needy families.


Sutter Roofing breaks ground on multi-million dollar project with Cheney Brothers in Charlotte County, Florida. Sutter Roofing has delivered over 5 truck loads of roofing membrane, 50 truck loads of Insulation and over 19 tuck loads of Securock cover board to get the project underway. Bill Earle, Project Manager at Sutter Roofing said” This project should take us two months and two crews to complete; we are looking forward to seeing it finished!”

Cheney Brothers expressed their excitement of providing a closer distribution center to its Tampa Bay region and southwest Florida customers with the opening of the warehouse in Charlotte County. “The construction of our new West Coast Distribution Center is another major step in the growth of our Florida Company. We envision a wonderful and successful relationship with the communities, the families and businesses of this region,” said Byron Russell, CEO/Chairman of Cheney Brothers, Inc.

The new building is much larger and has just been renovated to enhance operational efficiencies and to help Sutter Roofing to continue to grow and evolve to keep pace with their client’s needs, allowing them to provide exceptional value and superior service. Sutter Roofing was recently awarded the roofing and sheet metal contracts on the largest construction project in Tampa Bay history at Tampa International Airport. Sutter is working with Skanska Construction on the Main Terminal Expansion and with The Beck Group/Austin Commercial on the Consolidated Rental Car Facility and Automated People Mover Expansion. The $953 million property expansion will require over 1,000 construction workers every day just in January and February of this year.  “This project marks the start of one of the busiest periods in the airport’s three-year capital program,” said airport CEO Joe Lopano.

Sutter Roofing will be installing over 200,000 square feet of modified bitumen roofing and over 230,000 square feet of standing seam metal roofing for the combined projects. The cumulative project value is over $6 million and is expected to take Sutter Roofing over 50,000 man hours to complete by spring of 2017.  Sutter Roofing President Doug Sutter added “This is a great project for us with long-term customers that know they can count on us to deliver a quality and timely installation. Our local Tampa workforce is very excited to be a part of this tremendous project for our region.”
